Living with natural light
John Pawson is an architectural designer renowned for his aesthetic minimalism.
Pawson is part of my inspirational journal as I keep feeling drawn and invigorated by his work.
I am especially inspired by the way he fully acknowledges the essential beauty of natural light and shadow casts. He has a mastering eye for spotting how shadows move on exterior house facades and within interior spaces. He then seems to mold his architectural work so it becomes a stage to hold this beauty.
Additionally, I also find his rural architectural renovations alluring. It is clear that the houses are made with respect for previous constructions and materials, but at the same time, he discretely modernizes the spaces by opening them up to the light and their surrounding environment.
Even though I am personally for the more cozy, have a love for wider colour palettes, and are generally less minimalistic in preference, I appreciate the pure aesthetic he creates.
Browsing through his portfolio of work I can’t help but imagine all the different large scaled artworks I would hang in his houses. His houses serves as a perfect imaginary canvas for me to decorate and get creative with.
