Gadé Allure framing

A frame (or the lack of it) is one of the primary presentation features of an artwork. Also, a frame aids as a security cover for the artwork.

It is within the property of the frame to either uplift or lowers the firsthand impression of the quality of an artwork.

  • our frames are custom made

Some of our artwork carries new and custom made frames.

A close collaboration with the master craftsman Engstedgaard allows me access to a variety of wood, which provides the opportunity to find the best match between the expression of an artwork and choice of wood, profile, and surface treatment of the frame.

  • ..and made of surplus wood

Using old (stocked for many years) and / or surplus wood for framing is my absolute preference when creating new frames.

The result is a respectful process both for the artwork and for wood as a ressource. The Engstedgaard workshop allows me access to wood, which are in surplus from their orders, and thus of such small batch that it no longer has a purpose at their workshop.

At times stock and artwork dimensions will not allow usage of wood in surplus, and then a second-best solution is sought.

New framing process

with respect to originality

Changing a frame is done with much care, consideration, and respect for originality. Only when the frame causes the overall quality and impression of the artwork to decrease, or when the original frame is suffering from a condition that is beyond saving, the artwork is given a new bespoke frame.
