Benedicte Maria Bech Pedersen's philosophy behind working with leather is to evoke a natural calming effect on the viewer. She is attracted to the way leather patinates and she believes that leather, being the material that comes closest to human skin, has a powerful connection to our senses. The draped suede and leather reliefs and artworks she creates are inspired by slowness, sensuality, and immersion, and they stand as her most prominent works.
The relief is delicately asymmetrical, with the draped suede continuing slightly beyond its base at the bottom. The dramatic effect of the relief can be enhanced with lighting from above, such as spotlighting. It is wrapped around a wooden stretcher and carries no frame, adding to its contemporary and minimalist feel. The artist's signature 'Benedicte Maria' and date '2019' can be found on the stretcher, along with a reference to the name of the artist's atelier.
