The painting is made using a collage technique where Spindel works with multiple layers of paint and paper-like material. Altogether resulting in deep nuances of color and a tactile surface where natural cracks shows the material at work.
This artwork is signed on the front and reverse side, and is titled and dated "collage 1963". It is elegantly framed in a new bespoke frame crafted from old mahogany wood, specifically chosen to compliment the artwork's composition and quality.
Ferdinand Spindel (1923-1980) was an accomplished graphic designer from Essen, Germany. He started his artistic career as an independent artist at the age of 24 and traveled to Berlin and Paris. The early stage of his artistic career was marked by non-representational paintings. Later, he began working exclusively with foam as a material, resulting in the destruction (reuse of materials) of many of his early works. As Ferdinand Spindel is paticularily known for his foam creations, this post-war modern collage, created during the early stage of his career, is a piece more rare to find on the market.
The painting is in excellent condition, exhibiting almost no signs of wear, and is ready to hang.
