Due to the materials used the artwork has a striking three dimensionality to it that enhances the mystique and the curiosity you feel towards this artwork. Breuste has titled the assemblage ‘immer den kopf hoch und nicht traurig sein’ which directly translates to ‘always keep your head high and don’t be sad’, and has also and inscribed an ‘I’ in the front lower left of the artwork. This adds one more dimension of relatedness as the artwork might be interpreted as a portrait.
The 'Always Keep Your Head High And Don't Be Sad' assemblage draws inspiration from the 1950s and the post-war period, a time when the revival of relief sculpture became a modern phenomenon. Artists like César, Louise Nevelson, and Alberto Burri experimented with relief sculptures and assemblage techniques, leaving an indelible mark on the art world.
Hans-Jürgen Breuste, a multi-talented artist, found his passion in art at the age of 23, leaving behind his life as a mason. His works, including bronze and stone sculptures for public spaces and thought-provoking assemblages, have earned him recognition for his artistic prowess.
The assemblage is signed H.J. Breuste, dated ‘62’. The artwork has a new bespoke frame in white lye-treated ash wood, specifically designed to complement the look and feel of the assemblage. The dimension of the assemblage is 25,2in (H) x 18,9in(W) / 64cm(H) x 48cm(W). The assemblage is in great condition, with only natural wear consistent with its age and minor cracks at assembly points. Arrives ready to hang.
